BY CANOE
Are you more into "river" or "lake" experiences?
You have the choice between these two options:
On the Loir, you can enjoy a contemplative experience as you let yourself be carried by the current. It’s a peaceful river, perfect for a family stroll. Lined with mills and private fishing spots, it sometimes holds beautiful surprises, such as the remains of fortresses overlooking it in Lavardin and Montoire-sur-le-Loir. At the Villiers-sur-Loir leisure center, you can peacefully try out this activity.
Information available at the Vendôme Tourist Office.
The Loir
Contrary to what many people believe, the Loir is not a tributary of the Loire. The Loir originates in Eure-et-Loir, at Saint-Eman.
It crosses 97 municipalities in 4 departments (Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher, Sarthe, Maine-et-Loire) and 2 regions (Centre-Val de Loire, Pays de la Loire). It is 316.6 km long (of which 95 km are in Vendômois) and flows into the Sarthe upstream of Angers.
